Overview

Our Mission

To provide a continuum of addiction treatment services to adults in a safe and structured environment.

To educate clients about addictive disease; promote personal responsibility for continued treatment, support behavioral change, and promote productive living in order to reduce recidivism and criminality.

Philosophy

Right Turn of Maryland accepts the broad definition of alcoholism published by the National Council on Alcohol in the Annals of Internal Medicine (December 1976) that states: “Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive and potentially fatal disease.  It is characterized by tolerance and physical dependency, pathologic organ changes, or both, all of which are direct or indirect consequences of the alcohol ingested.”  Right Turn of Maryland believes that abstinence from alcohol and other psychoactive drugs is necessary for recovery from the disease.  This program involves education and counseling – individual and group – so the client; (a) is started toward recovery from the physiological consequences of the disease, (b) recognizes his/her disease, and (c) accepts the necessity of continued abstinence in order to begin recovery.
