Weekend Intervention

Right Turn of Maryland's
Weekend Intervention Program
Proven To Reduce DWI Offender's Repeat Rates

Repeat DWI offenders are one of the greatest challenges facing the criminal justice system.  Research supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that a short term residential intervention program and continuing care is the most effective way to reduce repeat offenses.

This study found that drunken driving repeat rates were reduced by 31% for first time offenders and 22% for repeat offenders.

Right Turn’s 48 Hour Intervention Program is based upon the nationally acclaimed Weekend Intervention Program developed at Wright State University School of Medicine.  It is an intensive weekend residential program that combines small group and individual counseling and treatment recommendations.

Assessment/Diagnosis

  • Assessment/Diagnosis:
    • Distinguishing the social drinker from the alcoholic is an element of the program.  65% of first time offenders are problem drinkers, so they are at high risk for repeat offenses if they do not receive treatment.

    • During the 48 hours, each participant receives nearly 20 hours of intense group and cognitive counseling.

Continuing care
